Python is an easy-to-learn but powerful programming language that is widely used in big data, data engineering and data science.
The 1-day course serves as preparation for the “Apache Spark for Data Engineering” course and provides the necessary Python programming techniques and best practices for initial practical use. All course participants are introduced to working productively with Python using the PyCharm IDE.
The course is aimed at beginners with initial experience in Python and provides an introduction to Python for all beginners in big data, data engineering and data science, in particular for career changers in the field of business intelligence. The prerequisites are:
- Basic programming concepts and initial programming experience in Python or practical experience in any other language
- Experience with SQL

Information About the Training
Based on Python 3.7, course participants learn all the essential requirements for a quick, practice-oriented introduction to Python as a programming language:
- Python background and special features in contrast to competing languages
- A comparison of the most important data types and their ideal areas of application
- Code conventions and typical project structures
- Work with features
- Working with files and database connections
A brief insight into advanced topics is also provided:
- Code structure with classes
- Logging in Python programs
- Testing both as a unit test and as a data test
All practical exercises are carried out on the basis of the Pycharm IDE:
- Create and configure a project
- Run scripts as a whole or interactively in the console
- An overview of the features of the IDE
A separate laptop with PyCharm community edition or higher and a Python 3+ installation is required. Alternatively, an OracleVM can be deployed with a ready-to-use installation.
