Understanding and Mastering Data Modeling

This training provides a fundamental introduction to the art and science of data modeling. Participants will gain valuable insights into the importance of effective data models and learn how to successfully apply them in real-world projects.

A key focus of the training is an overview of various modeling paradigms. Participants will explore the fundamentals of Entity-Relationship (ER) modeling to represent business entity types and their relationships. Multidimensional modeling with ADAPT helps design analytical data structures for OLAP systems, enabling efficient data analysis. The Star Schema will be discussed as a proven technique for creating high-performance access layers within a data warehouse.

Additionally, the training provides an introduction to more advanced approaches such as Data Vault, which offers flexibility and scalability for managing complex datasets within the core of a data warehouse—making it particularly well-suited for agile DWH projects. By covering a variety of modeling paradigms, this training equips participants with a broad set of tools and techniques.

The course includes interactive sessions, hands-on exercises, and group projects to encourage the practical application of acquired knowledge. Real-world case studies enable participants to directly integrate their learnings into their daily work. Upon completion of the training, participants will be capable of independently designing and optimizing data models that meet the demands of modern business analytics.

Information on the Training

This training provides a fundamental introduction to data modeling, which involves the business-oriented structuring of data within a Business Intelligence (BI) system. Data modeling serves several key objectives:

  • Enhancing understanding and communication of business relationships,
  • Formalizing these relationships to ensure they are accurately represented through data,
  • Creating consistent and easy-to-understand documentation, and
  • Providing templates for implementations that align with business expectations.

In this training, participants will learn the fundamentals and techniques of data modeling, as well as how to create and interpret data models. Practical examples and best practices will be covered to reinforce theoretical knowledge through real-world use cases.

By the end of the training, participants will be able to independently develop, evaluate, and implement data models for various scenarios, effectively integrating them into practical BI solutions.

A basic understanding of Business Intelligence (BI) concepts and knowledge of data analytics or database design are beneficial but not required.
